BACKGROUND OF UNCLAIMED PROPERTY IN CANADA
The provinces of British Columbia, Alberta and Quebec have introduced regulations requiring the holders of unclaimed property to make reasonable efforts to locate and contact their rightful owners, if their last known address was in one of those three provinces. If all efforts taken by the holders are unsuccessful, then information on the unclaimed property will be made accessible to the public in order to facilitate its return to the owner.
WHAT IS UNCLAIMED PROPERTY?
The definition of unclaimed property is any property in possession of a “holder” that has been left by the owner with no instruction, claim or transactions for a given period of time as set out by legislation.
*CI Global Asset Management may be the “holder” of such unclaimed property. The "owner" would be the individual who has an interest in the property.
INQUIRY PROCESS
If you think you might be the owner of unclaimed property, you can search our Unclaimed Property Database by name. This searchable database contains a list of unclaimed property currently held by CI Global Asset Management. If your search is successful, only the name of the asset holder will be displayed. In order for a match to be successful, the First and Last name fields must be identical to how the account is currently registered at CI Global Asset Management. Individuals who use different variations for their registration are encouraged to search under those variations so as to further confirm whether there is a successful match on the database.

BC Legislation
On July 1, 2000, British Columbia introduced a new legislation which requires both government and non-government holders of unclaimed property to make reasonable efforts to locate and notify owners of their unclaimed property. Provision of information presented here is in accordance to the B.C. Unclaimed Property Act (Bill 91-1999) and applies to B.C. addressees only.

Quebec Legislation
The Public Curator Act was introduced to Quebec in 1997 to provide protection and representation of incapacitated persons, and also provide administration of unclaimed property.
